 Outline of Member Services

As the largest heavy construction association in Canada, the Alberta Roadbuilders and Heavy Construction Association is committed to providing a number of valuable services to, and on behalf of, its members.

Membership services include:

  • The Equipment Rental Rates Guide and Membership Roster
The Guide is supplied free to members and is widely distributed to consultants and all levels of government. The Guide is the standard rate guide for all jobs tendered by Alberta Infrastructure and Transportation,  and Alberta Environment, the City of Calgary, the City of Edmonton, Parks Canada, many of Alberta’s municipalities and counties, and other owners. Advertising is sold only to members in this annual publication, which gives members an opportunity to promote their products and services in a widely circulated publication.

  • Current tender call and tender result information
This is provided daily, including an estimated 95 per cent of all projects tendered to the industry in Alberta, plus updated plan holders’ lists. The ARHCA also maintains a file of all federal government and NWT tenders.

  • Updates on current government regulations, specifications and legislative changes affecting the construction industry.

  • Educational Seminars
Topics include: City of Edmonton and City of Calgary Public Works Programs, Alberta Infrastructure and Transportation Information Sessions, and other seminars of interest such as environmental and safety issues, blue print reading, respectful workplace, introduction to estimating, etc.

  • Membership in the Canadian Construction Association
As a member of the ARHCA, your company is automatically a member of the Canadian Construction Association, the national voice for Canada's construction industry. Members receive the CCA newsletter and publications such as the Environmental Bulletin, the International Construction File and the Tax & Tariff Bulletin.

  • Member Communication
Members receive regular mailings from the Association including:
    • minutes of the Board of Directors' meetings
    • minutes of the Environment and Safety Committee meetings
    • the annual report
    • Roadrunner quarterly newsletters
    • notices from owners regarding changes in specifications and/or regulations, tender schedules, etc.

  • Networking Opportunities/Annual Events
    • Annual General Meeting & Convention
      • This two-day event is held normally towards the end of November and is always well attended by members and guests.

    • Trade Show
Running concurrently with the Annual General Meeting and Convention, the trade show is a chance for member companies to show the industry its services and technologies.

    • Area Meetings
Four annual area meetings held in Edmonton, Calgary, Medicine Hat/ Lethbridge and Grande Prairie. These meetings give members the opportunity to network with other members in the region, local municipal and Alberta Infrastructure & Transportation representatives, and local elected officials. These meetings also keep members informed about association activities and allow members to provide feedback to ARHCA staff and board members about what the ARHCA can do for them.

    • Golf Tournaments
Seven tournaments are held annually across Alberta. These are great networking opportunities for members.

  • Sponsorship Opportunities
The ARHCA makes sponsorship opportunities available only to ARHCA members at golf tournaments, area meetings, and the AGM and Convention. These are excellent marketing and advertising opportunities for ARHCA Associate members in particular.

  • Discounted Rate for Access to COOLNET to view electronic plans and specifications for any project. Only ARHCA members qualify to join a local construction association for COOLNet services at a special reduced fee. The Edmonton Construction Association will give ARHCA members full COOLNet access for about a third of their normal membership fees.

  • Annual Scholarship
Each year individuals are recognized by the Association for their outstanding scholastic accomplishments and contributions for the community. The ARHCA annual scholarship is awarded to an individual who has completed his/her secondary education (high school) and will be or is currently a student at a recognized and accredited post-secondary institution or in an apprenticeship program. The scholarship must be used toward tuition or course materials. The scholarship is available to the children of ARHCA member firm employees.

  • CCA and WCRHCA Involvement
The ARHCA sends representatives to the Canadian Construction Association and Western Canada Roadbuilders and Heavy Construction Association conventions and maintains representation on the board of directors for both organizations.

  • Edmonton Meeting Facilities
The Association makes its boardroom available to members at no charge. The boardroom seats up to 30 people, and is available on a pre-booking basis.
